During 2018, the City of Lambertville began exploring the effects of single use plastics on our environment and the health of our community. Lambertville is located along the Delaware River, and we take great pride in celebrating and preserving the unique environmental assets that shape our community.

We designed the Ditching Disposables Initiative to foster a sense of community around improving the environmental health of our City, inspire residents to minimize the consumption of single use plastics, and empower businesses to embrace sustainability as a pillar of their business model.

The plastics ordinance was introduced to the public in 2018, and went into effect a year later on January 1, 2020. At the time, this ordinance was one of the most progressive plastics bans in the country and addressed the use of single use shopping bags, disposable drink straws, and Styrofoam food containers.
